Liberty Ocean Task Chair with Fabric Backrest
A softer look for your workspace, with support that follows your movement. Designed by Niels Diffrient, Liberty Ocean pairs an upholstered seat and fabric backrest with a weight-sensitive recline. Choose from fourteen Autumn textile colours and two frame finishes.
Recline naturally
The mechanism balances recline using your body weight, so there is no tension dial to retune throughout the day. The backrest follows changes in posture as you move from upright work to a relaxed position. Set your seat height and depth, then let the chair respond as you lean back.

Contoured support, upholstered finish
Liberty’s three-panel Form Sensing backrest changes shape around your back. In this range, Autumn fabric covers both the seat and back, giving a warmer, more residential finish than the separate mesh-back model. Integrated lumbar support comes from the backrest’s shape rather than a separate adjustable lumbar pad.
Arm support that moves with you
Every configuration includes height-adjustable Duron arms. Set each arm to support your forearms with relaxed shoulders. The arms attach to the backrest and follow its recline. This range has one included arm style; upholstery selection changes the seat and back fabric, not the arm-pad finish.

Fourteen colours, one considered textile
Autumn is made from 100% recycled polyester with a layered weave and a soft, textured feel. Compare the original fabric swatches to choose your colour; the selected chair image and rear view show its placement on the seat and back. Screens and lighting can affect how colours appear. Both frame choices have black trim.

Who is it for?
A good choice for home offices, client-facing workspaces and people who prefer a fabric back to exposed mesh. Liberty suits desk work with regular changes in posture and a straightforward set of fit adjustments. Check the seat-height and depth ranges in Specifications against your body and desk. This task-chair model has no headrest.
Recovered material, useful design
Selected components incorporate up to 2 lb (0.9 kg) of recovered ocean and coastal plastic, including discarded fishing nets. The Ocean version combines this recovered material with the Liberty family’s movement-focused design.

Your first adjustments
Use the lever beneath the seat to set a height that lets your feet rest comfortably on the floor. Adjust seat depth to leave space behind your knees, then position the arms with your shoulders relaxed. Lean back gently to experience the weight-sensitive recline. The illustrated guide shows the controls and recommended fitting sequence.
